In 1911, British illustrator Mabel Lucie Attwell gave a curious little girl a new face. Her name was Alice, and she was about to follow a rabbit into a world where nothing behaved as it should.
Come along for a moment. A white rabbit hurries past, fussing over his pocket watch. There is a wonderfully silly tea party ahead, and somewhere nearby, a cat disappears — leaving only its grin behind.
You know this story. But you may not know this Alice.
For many of us, Alice is Disney’s blonde girl in a blue dress, surrounded by bright colours and lively cartoon characters. Mabel’s Alice came long before that familiar screen version. Her gentle lines, expressive faces and sweet, old-fashioned details belong to the pages of a classic storybook.
Looking at her illustrations feels a little like opening a favourite childhood book. You remember the excitement of turning the page, the wish to stay up for just one more chapter. For a moment, you are that curious child again, ready to believe the impossible.
That is the Alice we fell for — and wanted to bring into everyday life.
Our licensed Alice in Wonderland accessories, available at Magnolia Lounge, feature Mabel’s original illustrations on tote bags, cosmetic bags, toiletry organisers and travel bags.
Take her on a weekend away, carry her to the bookshop, or give someone a little reminder of a story they have always loved.
We may grow up, but we can still follow our curiosity.
No rabbit hole required. Just a little room in your day for Wonderland.
